Canyons of the Ancients
Located below Mesa Verde in the southwestern edge of Colorado, Canyons of the Ancients was home to some 200,000 Anasazi over their 700 year history. Today, while not showing remarkable ruins like Mesa Verde, it provides significant archeological and anthropologcal data on how the Anasazi lived.
Crow Canyon Archeological Center had surveyed, cataloged, and modeled this fascinating history.
Hovenweep Castle
Located just across the Utah border from Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, this ruin is built atop a cliff.
The cloud pattern would presage a pushy day of 60 mile an hour winds. Careful examination of the wall beneath the crow showed this was a long-time favorite place to land.
