Artist’s Statement

An award winning photographer, Joe is a Tour Guide, Speaker, Writer, and Geologist. His Bisti Badlands image (see Awards) won the Cover Shot for January, 2006, New Mexico Magazine in 5th Annual Photo Contest. Other Bisti images are winning Judged Competition Awards at Enchanted Lens Camera Club.

Majestic Blessing won 1st Place - Landscapes - Members Choice ~ Annual Banquet, Enchanted Lens Camera Club, June, 2007. Majestic Blessing won Peoples Choice, New Mexico State Fair, September, 2007.

Anasazi Pleasure, a panoramic collage from Canyonlands, near Moab, Utah, recently won Honorable Mention at a Judged Competition for the New Mexico State Fair, 2007.

Cave Towers Canyon, a 10EV HDR image of an Anasazi ruin, Cedar Mesa, Utah, won a Judged Competition Award at Enchanted Lens Camera Club, Dec., 2007.

He began shootin' hoodoos in the Bisti in 2004. A hoodoo is an unusual eroded geologic form consisting of a sandstone cap supported by a softer, eroding clay base. The Bisti Badlands (Wilderness), located in the Four Corners heartland near ancient Anasazi's Chaco Canyon, are about 35 miles south of Farmington, New Mexico.

Joe enjoys bringing Natural History to Digital Expeditions. The Four Corners Region has ancient rainforests, dinosaurs, Anasazi civilizations with Solar and Lunar influences on building orientation, magnificent archeological ruins in remote, protected canyon heads, and scarred remnants of relatively recent volcanic explosions.
Joe adds to your enjoyment by providing stories, slide shows, and on the ground comment about these evocative phenomena, ancient cultures, and our natural heritage!
Award winning images were digitally processed in Adobe Photoshop CS3; Joe makes a workshop entry for each digital technique to teach others advanced methods.
Recent HDR workflows detail capture, Camera Raw tone mapping, HDR 32-bit processing, and CS3 post processing.

Several Digital Tours are available to Guide your Cultural, Heritage, Natural History and Digital Instincts!
A new line of Digital Heritage Tours, HDR Workshops, and Fine Art Photography will be revealed very soon..

Images in Bisti Art will whet your keenest instincts as both composing photographer, evocative artist, and provocative poet… We enjoy the surreal nature shown by the Four Corners Anasazi and their Mesa Verde civilization near Magic Hour; its beauty, solitude, and majesty come out in descriptions of our Award Winning Images!

Come with Joe, learn the natural history of the Four Corners Region, bring your digital camera, and tour one of the most uniquely picturesque hoodoo badlands on our planet.
